The Way
‘’Where does this way lead to?’’ they might ask.
‘’What did you see on the way?’’ they might also ask.
If we were further east, they’d ask you this:
‘’What is the way?’’
And perhaps you’d reply to them: ‘’Every day is a journey.’’
Magma is a monthly magazine; each month is a new journey for it.
One who gets the way, becomes the way.
One who gets on the way well, comes back well.
Any path you don’t feel like getting on, is not the true path.
Just as any climb you don’t master within yourself, is not a true climb.
One climbs their own mountain, treads their own path.
That’s why the path never ends. That’s why no two paths are the same. The Lycian Way changes, yuo change, the track on the map may not change, but the marks it leaves on you change. That’s why Altuğ Şenel, Magma’s wayfarer, walks the Lycian Way over and over again. Being the most knowledgeable about the way, the thing he knows for sure is that the way really remains a mystery. The Lycian Way is not paved, one embarks on a journey through all of history among the tumbledown ruins of Lycia. A path is a way only when it goes through all of history. The traveler may tread on the same footprints, follow the same traces, sight the same signs, but the path is not the same. You change, the landscape changes, the sky changes. And this is the feeling that draws you to the same path after all. The same path, but the view never stays the same. Even if it stayed the same, you may have seen it only just now. Because you have not stayed the same. Life is a journey, and it is on the way that you realize this the most. ÖZCAN YÜKSEK.
